Blogger hits go wild

No bod post today...and I will only visit a couple of targeted blogs on my blog roll. I´m testing a theory. *

It seems that a lot of people are experiencing a MASSIVE increase in traffic on thier blog counters..some are seeing a doubling of their traffic.
I noticed this about 6 days ago...the traffic spiked and hasn´t gone back to a normal level yet. At first i thought it was due to my natural animal magnetism but then I  noticed some perculiar patterns...I was getting a lot of traffic from non modelling/wargamong blogs, one of those being this blog;
My first Book blog by Misha
She reckons she´s been hit by a virus...so I suggest caution when linking to her blog at the moment.
There´s a theory* that it´s not a virus (blogger would have picked up on it and a lot of people have done virus checks and nothing)  but it´s the blog rolls connecting to each other. It seems as if when you visit a site that you are following and you are on thier blog roll..you pick up a lot of hits from them and visa versa.
This is confirmed by a lot of the hits coming from blog roll blogs like Figoblogtheque etc...which are more or less just large blog rolls.
If this is the case, and it continues, then I will set up my intended followers blog roll blog...if it works...then we can all start such blogs..monetise and become millionares!! :-D

Hello to mk_ozkir. He´s just started blogging with his blog miniafv  but has got a great set of posts covering 1/72nd AFV´s, modern and WWII. His  conversion of a tiger to a recovery vehicle is very good.
Hello to Blio Ray.... from Миниатюры  (nnbminiatures blog.).He makes and paints models in 1/72 and 28mm and (3 and´s in a sentence!!) has just started in the blogger world.

  2. Same here.
I haven´t chosen your blog to do my test, your´s is one that shows a lot of cross traffic onto mine..along with rabbits in my basement and kingsley parks (and some others)
I´ve picked some that have shown no increase of traffic to my blog...Peter´s cave, Rays blog, Porky´s..if the theory is correct...then??? :-/

  5. I have noticed it too. Maybe we've hit 'critical mass'?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Критическая масса,это плохо.Так как после идет тока взрыв.Если только,кто-то не приостановит процесс.

  7. OR!!!! it could be the plus one button they have recently added!!!!

  8. Если критическая масса… после этого !!?? Помощь!! :-D

  9. I've noticed that too but for me it happenned when I installed "Linkwithin", I thought that explained it but don't know now, I'm getting far too many hits.

  10. Так это,примерно как в реакторе.Рост критической массы,потом бац и всё.:-D.Короче нам нужен ядерщик,или как минимум физик,вроде Планка или Бора,можно Эйнштейна.

  11. As Fran said we noticed this over the weekend, for the last couple of days my daily numbers have been between 800-1200, not that I'm complaining of course!!!! Wonder what's going on?

  12. Interesting theory. I had visits from here and your country today, but whether they were at the time you left the comment is hard to say; they were at least around that time.

I've had a lot of extra traffic from older posts on specific blogs, and some heavy traffic from one or two in particular at different times. The guy behind one blog emailed me to ask about a heavy stream I was sending him, completely unknown to me of course.

It's bizarre. It could be some kind of bot/crawler activity. I just don't trust the numbers I'm reading.

  13. I've noticed the same thing. Typically I get 80-150hits per day, but the last 4 days haven't dipped below 300 and sometimes exceed 400. If it's from a glitch that means my 10k visits update is probably a week early ;) The increase is mostly coming from This site & Angry Lurker's.

  14. After your post at my blog the hits are coming in again. Always UK US and AUS, but nothing from my own country (Belgium); Strange very strange.

Traffic: Paul's Bods, The Angry Lurker.

Keep us informed what your blog does

    Greetings
    Peter

  15. I too have noticed the massive hit increase, however, my stats show normal numbers of hits on the individual posts.

It is good for our ego's though I imagine!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I am also noting a greatly increased number of visits and from similar sites as mentioned.

Ah well, I guess I haven't hit on the magic formula for more blog visits after all.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the future.

    Cheers

  17. ...Oh... I thought I became just very populair. Well... Is it not possible that the servers where all the data from our blogs is stored are just de-fragmentating (putting the data particles in the right routes)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defragmentation So moving our data and links cause the hits we reseive. Maybe a bit vague, but I can find no other explanation... Don't know if bloggers that are blogging for a few years now did experienced something like this before.

  18. I was intending to herald my 30,000th page view with suitable pomp and ceremony but with all this hoo ha going on I just feel like a total fraud now.

  19. I read Misha's post as well. I hadn't really noticed much, but upon checking my stats it looks like they might have spiked but I can't say for sure. My comments dropped significantly on my most recent post, but I think that has a lot to do with the subject matter. I'll be watching and waiting.

  20. @KP..30,000 hits is 30,000 hits...who cares :-D
@Ludo...you having log in troubles as well...?? I think the whole thing is about to implode!! :-D
@Peter...I thought it would...as porky says...he got a slight ride in the hit count and when he posted here...so did I (coming from his blog)
My hit counter starts going wild between 1700 - 1800 (BMT + 1)and continues to steadily rise until about 0200 - 0300 (BMT+1)
my stat counter has a very "equal" and balanced pattern for the whole week, the troughs and peaks being virtually the same every day.

  23. Made s post on the Google blog forum about this, but no one as yet has got back to me.

Seems to be effecting a lot of people and both my blogs have had major increase in traffic from all sites that have links to mine.

Remind me what we did before the internet?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Before the internet? We went down the pub, went fishing, watched repeats on the TV and went to bed at a decent time :-D

  25. I have noticed the same phenomena over the past 10 days. My top 6 referrers are in order 1 Fran, 2 Paul 3 Google and 4 Kingsleypark 5 Google polls. 6 my main website.

My theory is there is a synergistic thing happening due to several factors.

1 Google is indexing faster and deeper than it once did. I see my aircraft profiles indexed in Google images in a matter of a couple hours.
Another thing is Google ranks sites by quantity and quality of links both inbound and outbound.

2 The +1 button may be a cause.

3 More cross talk between blogs through comments.

4 The longer you are posting the bigger the breadcrumb trail back to you gets.

5 Additional posting on other forums, blog networks, etc.

6 Google polls add a sizable amount of hits, That was a bit of a surprise to me. I have noticed a lot of the hits are to the main blog and not individual pages.

7 social sites like Facebook and Stumbledon could be in the mix too.

    Cheers

  26. I have about 10x normal traffic according to Bl.Stats since Friday or so, but Gobble Analytics is a big buzzkill with 1x at the same time.

They always were a little different, and usually B Stats was better and I think more accurate up until this week.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well the test shows only 100 hits at my blog since your post earlier this morning - so about on par actually!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think its just normal traffic Paul, as just more people are clicking on links to other sites from our own.

Maybe its just a natural knock on effect.

No one responded to my forum post, although someone going on about a lot of traffic to his site, is perhaps not worth worrying about.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The spike seems to have levelled off...but the hits are still pretty high.
    Looks at this link
    http://www.bennosfigures.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=8048
The blog page looks very similar in traffic patterns to mine...unusual....normally over a week I wouldn´t get such a regular pattern.does anyone elses look like that?
    Cheers

  30. I'll get the metal detector then.

For good info on the Romans in Germany check out the Lost Fort http://lostfort.blogspot.com/

Gabriele lives in Germany and is a huge source for the period and quite a few other.

  31. Mine looks similar at first glance, but isn't. The example you you link to is more regular than mine, but at first glance mine looks regular. A regular spiking pattern could be a sign of regular visitors with regular habits (eg. I'm usually online at about the same times each day).

A visit is a visit is a visit.

PS I'm not sure what this '+1' thing is, but if it went active in the past week it's probably got something to do with it.

  32. and I just thought you guys liked what I was posting. Oh well...

  33. Maybe everyone downloaded google chrome and it's easier to blog again? Until I did this it was a right pain just to sign in.

  34. Hi,

I had a lot of peoples coming back to them saying that the figoblogotheque raised the number of visits they received after I linked to their blogs... but this has been since the begining.

I my self didn't experiance a "visible" raise in the visit numbers those days (I usually do not check those but just did after reading your article).

By the way, when you say "This is confirmed by a lot of the hits coming from blog roll blogs like Figoblogtheque etc...which are more or less just large blog rolls. ", you can't be more in the truth as I originally made it (and I think it was the first of its kind in minies gaming) when the blogroll on my main blog (http://gloarmy.blogspot.com/) started to be to big !

Speaking about "monetise and become millionares!!", Figgybloggy have been there since february 2009 with some google adds to "test it", and I'm still waiting for my first buck (you do not get any money under 70 bucks or something)... Which is quite normal : peeps come to figgy bloggy to visit other blogs (This is how I use it myself... and I'm probably it s main user), not to clic on adverts.

My understanding of english make me sometime not understand everything well, so please dont mind my question, but does the lack of link and your comment means that you are in some way "against" la Figoblogothèque ?

Thx for reading my laborious english (globish ? blogish ?),

    Greg

  35. Not sure about our blog but the number of hits on mine has returned to its normal levels of about 20 a day.
