A Union gun Crew. These are some of my conversions from over 30 years ago.
Top halves from the ACW set and 3 bottom halves from the Airfix Russian infantry set and one (far left) from the Union infantry set. Bases are painted up emerald green "old School"
I´ve now gone and ordered the book American Civil War Wargaming by Terry Wise so when it arrives, basing can start.
Both Crews for the CSA finished
and another Union gun Crew addedAll 4 guns with Crews.
Note the twisted and or snapped spokes. The dreaded plastic rot? In some cases yes but some of the wheels are still very pliable and I seem to remember (way back) that the spokes on a lot of the airfix sets were twisted.
Right, if anyone actually misses thier target they get thier pay docked! |
Nice conversions
ReplyDeleteLove em! Didn't know the Terry Wise book was still available.
ReplyDeleteThanks David.
DeleteIt is but not as a re-print. I got hold of an original copy ..happily not too expensive but it is going for silly Prices on places like Evil-bay.
Well done, waiting for the bases now!
ReplyDeleteEvery nice indeed.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely painted Paul, as always. Those Union gunners are clever conversions - never seen that before.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob. There´s a conversion coming in the next post, a bit more complicated than those above, that even though I say it myself, is pretty clever :-D
DeleteBrilliant!
ReplyDeleteLove the conversions. Great figures that bring back very fond memories!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I've just recovered mine from my parents' house after 30 years.
ReplyDeleteThose old figures hold paint really well! I do take exception to the kneeling figure. Not a military pose! But then that's not your fault! Beautiful paint jobs!
ReplyDeleteThanks John. I did think about using them but then I made them over 35 years ago, I think they were meant to be taking cover behind a wall along with a bunch of kneeling riflemen,. Eventually Nostalgia got the upperhand and it is old School after all ;-)
DeleteI have some of these bods, and their pose quality seemed inferior to the newer releases from other companies. However, your painting gave them so much life, they look stunning. Great job as always, I wish you make some youtube instruction videos on figure painting :).
ReplyDeleteThanks Arsovski. I have tried to make Videos but they never really work. The method I use is a simple three colour-three layer one..it does not look too bad and can be done at Speed, 10 bods in a couple of hours..the airfix ones..maybe 15-20 an hour. For more accurate painting I use another method but that´s more complicated.
DeleteMaybe I´ll make a blog post about the "speed" method one day ;-)
Your painting brings the figures to life Paul. Superb.
ReplyDeleteI like the old style of base colour, and so I am glad you kept them all as you painted them years ago. The look Splendid forming up behind your guns. I guess they are all rather short sited being so spaced against the dark light!
ReplyDeleteOld Dutch Painter Style Perhaps? BB
