Airfix DAK grenade thrower

IMHO, The most  iconic pose from Airfix....he just looks great...wether the  Model 24 Stielhandgranate would actually go far when he released it I don´t know...not having ever thrown one :-)

  1. He's certainly dynamic! The detail looks very fine and the proportions are good too.

I wonder if there's a market for atmosphere controlled rooms for painting? We've all surely also heard the horror stories about conditions changing the effect of sprays.

  2. Looking at how good you paint your 20mm's I think I'll leave mine in the garage. Top quality on the painting and I certainly remember this particular figure. The Africa Korp were one of my favorite packs oh so many years ago, maybe I should have stayed with the scale especially when you look at the ranges available now.
By the way, are you going to do 28mm plastics or metal for your medieval army?

  3. Thanks :-)
For my 28mm medievals I´m planning to do a mix. I´ve got no specific army planned but the Perry 100 yrs war and The war of the roses stuff looks good. With me, I start off intending to have a small collection and end up with cupboards full :-D

  4. He looks great Paul. One of the first sets of plastic soldiers I ever owned was a 1/32-ish scale set of Hong Kong copies of this set, and I always loved this pose. I look forward to seeing what you do with the whole set - one of my other favourites is the soldier running with the MG34.

  7. Thanks :-)
To get the colour for his jacket...black base...then mix olive green with medium brown...ratio 2-1...cover, then a layer on raised areas of 1-3 and then mix white into the 1-3 mix and drybrush.I don´t use any brand name paints with large ranges of colours...I have to mix the colours I want myself. If you use say prussian blue from whatever hobby paint firm and paint it onto a black base it will have a completely different result if you use a grey or white base. I don´t ever believe what is on the tin and have got back to the basics of mixing and colour blending. :-D

PS...Also it doesn´t matter what size of brush you use to paint with...it´s the tip that is important..if that´s sharp then you can do the smallest of details.

  10. The best museum for Afrika Korp equipment is in South Africa. It's called the South African Military museum and they have a 10 minute video on Youtube. It's impressive how you shade those miniatures so nicely given their size!

  11. Top Tier work for this soldier here. For me, it's his equipment bandolier that takes the cake. Well done.
