Bannockburn (pt 4) Sheltron 2nd battle

That was a fun Long Weekend. Went to the UK, attended a very big and excellent Greek  wedding and got a 30 quid fine for halting the car  in a gridded Zone....I thought they were there just as a warning unless signposted as no stopping....DOH!!! .:-D

Anyway....The  left wing Sheltron commanded by James Douglas, Lord of Douglas and Walter Stewart, 6th High Steward of Scotland.
There´s some doubt that both were in Joint command of  the same sheltron, but I´m sticking with this Version supplied to me by Douglas at the Bennos Forum. He´s found loads of stuff about the battle which I couldn´t find so many thanks Douglas :-D
Bods used all strelets and are from;
Medieval Levy (1)
Medieval Levy (2)
Military Order Warriors
Foot Military Order Knights

Alba gu bràth!!!!!
The shields, which used to be the Royal Standard ones and have now been replaced, still need a bit of "dirtying up" and I´ll add bods to represent Douglas and Stewart at some point
Douglas´s Standard on the left, Stuarts on the right. I used downsized shield Emblems to get the basic pattern then repainted them.
And a couple of "full contact" pics.

    1. Thanks Tasmin. The crossing was one in Ealing, basically there was no way I could avoid stopping to check oncoming traffic. The cop was ok though and it wasn´t worth argueing...would just have made things worse. Crap though..30 quid´s a lot of cash for something that at the end of they day wasn´t dangerous or obstructive.

  3. Great work paul. It is always nice to see what coould be done with a little tweak here and there. Strelets is a much overlooked make.

  4. Very nice. It looks like you are carving away the integral shields.

    1. Thanks Sean.
The original shields aren´t too good, the shape doesn´t always fit the period (not that I´m going for a 100% historical re-creation) and it´s way quicker and easier to print and glue the designs.

    1. Me naughty!!? I think it was more the stress of driving in London that got me into the stupid Situation than anything else...that and an unavoidable trap.

  9. Lovely work Paul. Lovely.
Douglas is spot on. Bruce put Jamie into the Steward's schiltroon to keep and eye on him. As steward,Walter was the third highest ranking noble on the field (after Robert Bruce and his brother Edward) but was too inexperienced to been given an actual command. Sir James Douglas, on the other hand, was a proven battle commander but far too junior in rank (he was a very minor Lordling in terms of title) to be given a command of his own.

So, the ideal option was to make Walter the commander of the wing in name, but James was very much the commander in fact.

    1. Thanks and double thanks for the confirmation of the Walter and James set up. There is a few different Versions of the Situation, some battle plans even Show up to 8 sheltrons!

    1. Thanks :-d
I think the area they got me was a bit of a trap, basically you couldn´t really avoid it and the guy who fined us was ok, just doing his Job even if it was a bit annoying to get a fine .
