English cavalry - Bannockburn (Pt12)

The Ist lot of  Edward´s Cavalry. So far only 16  of the (approx) 50 needed
Not based up yet, as there´s a load more that need doing and then they will be based according to which "battle Group" they belong to.
Sets used;
English Cavalry of Edward I
Military order Sergeants
Russian Medieval Horsemen (De Vescy´s new nag)
A couple of the Lances come from the Zvezda French Knights set.

To "bulk" out the numbers (barded nags are few and far between) I´m adding bods from the miltary order sergeants set. They´ll get shield Patterns similar (or in some case, the same) in  colour etc as thier bosses. Later additions will get the flags of selected "bosses" to bump up the colour of the stands.
From left to right, Aymer de Valence, Thomas Erkedekne, Gilbert De Clare and ...well I liked the colour scheme. It´s the same as the Earl of Norfolks , Per pale or and vert but it hasn´t got the lion rampant gules.
The kniggits
A couple of them like Gilbert de Clare have already turned up elsewhere on the blog so only close ups of the latest ones.

Giles de Argentine   ("For me, I am not of custom to
fly, nor shall I do so now") and  Robert Fitzwalter , 1st Baron Fitzwalter.

One Thing worth noting about Robert is that the coat-of-arms on his shield are imprinted.   In fact a lot of the bods in the set have imprinted coat-of -arms, several of which, like Roberts, have  historical accuracy. So far I´ve noticed(after cutting off shields and slicing of heraldry on surcoats)  C.o.A´s that could pass, (apart from the obvious George cross) for;
David de Brechin, (using the pics at PSR....third from left top row)
John 1st Baron of Amand (third row from top, ist on the left)
William Sampson or alternatively  William Latimer of Corby (top row, ist on the right)

Marmeduke de Tweng, 1st Baron Tweng and Henry de Bohun. Henry will get based seperately as he didn´t spend a whole lot of time at the battle due to an unforeseen headache.
Sir Rodger Mortimer de Chirk
William de Vescy of Kildare has got himself a new nag´.

  1. Excellent brushwork on these fine sculpts from Zvezda. I recall fondly the Revell Knights I used to have. Best, Dean

    1. Thanks Dean.
All of them are from Strelets ;-D To make this many using valdemar would cost a fortune. I Need 50 alone for the english, with all the personality, Edward II, Bruce etc and scottish cavalry, it comes to about 70 mounted.

  2. Really liking those blues and yellows Paul. I finally got my hand on some 1/72 figures and can now really appreciate just what you do. Getting detail on the faces like you do is really something.

    I'm speechless....

Tiny pic. I´ve used it for Ages and although it´s part of Photobucket it doesn´t have a Limit on Uploads. Photobucket kept blocking all the link codes to my pics if I uploaded more than 20 pics a month and then wanted me to upgrade to another type of free storage but it would have to be paid for.

What they understand with the word "free" I don´t know.
Picassa is ok but resizing pics is a pain, Picture trail is virtually unusable.
      Have you one?

    2. why do you want to resized your pictures ??
It's not necessary with Blogger as far I know !
If you want to do for one or two: Photobucket is enough and quite easy because you can choose your size easily !
      I don't like Picassa...
You can try also to open a new Photobucket account : you just need another e-mail address (hotmail is your friend!) and that's all !
Or, if it works (I've problems with it ) you can use the blogger uploading ("direct from your computer").

For me, the "one by one" viewing is not the best when you have a lot of pictures, and awful in Tiny pic! I prefer the slideshow: all the pictures with 1 click ! but it's just my own opinion!)

    3. Thanks Pascal.
The Blogger upload is (as far as I know) through Picassa ;-D
I turned the slide Show Thing off cos a lot of People didn´t like it (not here) but in General. The Thing with slide Show is you can´t make the Pictures bigger..it´s got a fixed size, even tricks with ctrl and mouse wheel don´t work.

  10. great work Paul! great looking knights. I especially like Sir Well-I-liked-the-colour-scheme, his wife must have been a little upset to have taken on such a long name.

The manes get even more complicated, especially when you start looking into who was related to who and how the Family names Change, which makes Research into getting a charcter pinned down in a definate time/place. Even finding info on Giles dárgentan, one of europes best Knights is a bit difficult, that´s wha i haven´t linked his Name anywhere.

  11. Great looking figures, you can't beat the look of the groups of knights in full heraldry. Very useful links as well, thanks.

  12. My favourite is William de Bescy :) . Very nice and colourful figures.

What I do is that I use the program IrfanView, that automatically resizes pics. Then I upload them to Blogger/Picasa, and that's it. Before I was hours and hours resizing pics, but using the conversion tool with Irfan View makes it a matter of seconds.

And no, I am not related in any way to IrfanView hehe :).
