So,
I´m back! It appears Blogger has changed some settings which I´m not
yet used to, one being how to set up the text, I can´t work out how to
left align the text.Any way.. after a long break, explanation underneath, I´ve decided to create a small medieval army which will be under the command of one personality. My usual carry on is to paint up a boss kniggit, maybe have a standard bearer and one or two men-at-arms but this time I`m going for a complete army. As far as possible most of the bods will be conversions..at least headswops, unless I haven´t painted the bods in thier original unconverted form before....or as far as I can remember wether I did or not.
| The boss, Sir Bodard. His Coat-of-Arms is inspired from a recent Video game. The bod is from Valdemar and he´s had a head swop. |
| Of course, the boss needs a fool to keep him from getting carried away and a trumpeter to announce his presence |
Planned for the army, which will have a "uniformed" look, is;
The boss with his cousin and thier command - Signallers, Standard bearers, Advisors
Mounted Men-at-Arms
Dismounted Men-at-Arms
Ranged weapons - archers, artillery and maybe crossbows.
A Peasant Levy
A Camp / Supply
Oddly I seem to have managed to get the text to sit properly although the font seems to have changed.
No Idea what I did but it appears to have worked.
So why was I away. Nothing to do with the flu or a bad cold but work injuries. Work injuries which led to not being able to paint but then having time to read and do online courses..Philosophy, medieval history, so something good came out of it all
First I smashed the middle finger on my right hand, triple open break. Looked way worse than it was. That took a few weeks to get over.
Then I bust my pelvis. Not too bad but sitting was quite literally a pain. One thing, one gets a small insight into how life is for people in wheelchairs.
Then I broke the ring finger on my right hand which took 4 OP´s to fix and still isnt properly fixed. I gave up with any medical treatment 3 months after the last OP and went back to work. My hand has about 50% mobility and its taken a while to restart painting..at first all I could manage was 10 minutes before the pain was too much but recently It´s getting easier.
Anyway, I´m not intending to break or damage any other body parts for the foreseable future and I´m glad to be back :-)
It sounds as if you really have been in the wars Paul. So lovely to hear that you have come through it and painting again. Look after yourself.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael :-)The last couple of years was a bit rough.
DeleteYikes! Glad you are feeling up to painting again. Looking forward to seeing more of the army!
ReplyDeleteThanks Norman :-)
DeleteWelcom Back. A hiatus is as good as a rest, not that sounds like it was restful, but, glad to hear you're on the mend!

Hi Hugh. Glad to be back:-) Tha last injury was the worse..Over 7 months off work, 4 OP´s and I´ve lost full use of the middle, ring and little finger..bit of a pain but one has to accept things as they go :-)
DeleteIt's partly (wispers) old age, mate! You just don't heal like you used to! I twisted my ankle, like proper, twice, in the run-up to Christmas, had to have days off work, staring at this red, yellow and purple, swollen thing, attached to the end of my leg, realised I'm not eighteen any more! Still get twinges on a long route at work, it’ll probably never be right now, and I just have to be careful!
DeleteH
It's great to have you back too Paul and those 'bods' look grand!
ReplyDeleteI am pleased to hear that you don't intend to break anything else on your own 'bod', but I guess you weren't planning on messing up the bits that you did?!
Best wishes, James
Thanks James :-) The breaks werent planned..the last one took a milli second to happen but months to "fix". I forgot to mention, after breaking my middle finger I also broke my cheek bone but was only off for one day.
DeleteGlad to see your return to painting/blogging. My prayers are for your speedy recovery. Take care of yourself! There are few in this hobby that approach your skill.
ReplyDeleteHi Anton. I was looking at your work just two days ago.
DeleteRather fab beginnings for the army there Paul, look forward to seeing it grow. I'm assuming you don't work in a cushy office - glad you've recovered :)
ReplyDeleteCan I show you my blog? 1/76 scale people generally being silly: https://tomertonvillage.blogspot.com/
Hi Tom. I tried office work..not for me..but maybe less risk of injury would be an advantage :-)
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog ...great Imagination and world building. If I had two lives I would go down that road myself. Tried it with Bodstonia but it is sooooo much work
Welcome back Paul! I like your new (Valdemar) figs... Maybe it will help me to have a look at my own brushes... ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi Phil. I did notice you have slowed down with your painting. After all the time I´ve been away most of the paints were dried up...which nearly made me give up again :-)
DeleteWhat have you been doing to break all those bones? You must've taken up rugby and taken on the All Blacks single-handed.
ReplyDeleteWhatever, it's great to see you back and blogging, the font type, size and alignment settings are in the banner across the top when in compose view, but I guess you've found that now.
Are there any plans for more Tumbling Dice work, as that's what drew me to your blog to start with? I'm a bit of a convert to 20mm figs.
Hi Rob. I got less injuries when I did play rugby :-)
DeleteTumbling dice. I think I more or less covered thier Dark ages....did I paint all of their WoTR´s range?...I´m not sure anymore :-/
Hi Paul, off the back of your painting their Normans and Wotr - I have sampled their crusader army for later 13th century, in my case I am hoping to paint some Italian armies. The cavalry tend to have kettle hats or helms.
DeleteAh ha!!! Then you might like what I´ve done with some crusaders as part of the new model army. I´ve converted most of the infantry into generic medievals, that is some of the armour etc doesnt fit exactly into a specific time period, more a "fantasy" medieval army but not D&D fantasy but closer (or as close as possible) to reality....sort of 13th /14th century. TBH, I´m suprised I didnt think of it before..the scope for conversions, placing bods one century forward of back is massive!!
DeleteWow! That’s quite a series of events. I’m glad to see you back. The hobby needs more 1/72 work.
ReplyDeleteHi Rob. None of the accidents were planned.. TBH, the last couple of years were spen mostly at one or another medical place. Between "breaks" I also got a bad urinary infection...peeing blood aint fun. Still, made a change from broken bones
DeleteIt´s great, that you are back, Paul!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks :-)
DeleteI'm glad you're back! Sorry to hear about your troubles, but I'm happy you're on the mend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark :-) I think painting again is helping..that and work. My hand is now less like a claw and more like a normal hand
DeleteGreat that your back in the blogolands. Also great is your immersed in medieval period - your previous figures were so compelling. Hope you recover all your mobility
ReplyDeleteThanks :-) I have one project that isnt medieval but it will take a bit of time to realise. So far I´ve never seen anyone use this object for the hobby...maybe because it would be too expensive to buy just to convert into a scale model...
DeleteAnd this is why I still check your blog occasionally. Besides simply to look at all your work. Welcome back. Sorry for your ill fortune and glad you are feeling better
ReplyDeleteI've had similar issues with my hand in the past and know what it is like to work through the pain.
I'm excited to see this new army!
Thanks :-) Hand injuries are no fun. Odd though. This last one was a simple break but turned into the worst injury I´ve ever had.
DeleteGlad to have you back painting and blogging again, Paul!!!!
ReplyDeleteJe suis très content que vous soyez de retour!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Belgium.
