Ok...I´m obsessed with Alex´s sculpting and even if it has absolutely no use whatsoever for wargaming in any shape or form I´ll get hold of it and paint it...

Late republican Roman army (1/72nd)

The last of my ancient armies...well for now at least: :-D
Bods mainly from Italeri but some from Caeser and comand bods (aquilifier and cornicen) from Zvezda

One of the biggest complaints about the Italeri set (PSR review here) is that there is two poses that are repeated 15 times each...but...........

......with a bit of bending ....

...and arm twisting ..................

.........you can get a hell of a lot of poses from them :-D

The  scorpian is from hat. The basket I weaved myself from pins and sowing thread.

The "bugler" is converted from the hornblower in the Odemars Oscan infantry set, the commander from the hat Roman comand set

Painted this lot up about the same time as the roman army.
Bods from Revell, Italeri, Hat and Airfix.

Republican Roman army 1/72nd

Not as big as the Imperial one..and was a lot easier to paint...no shield designs...For this lot I managed to knock out over 20 bods a day. All bods from hat, cavalry from Zvezda

One of my favourite sets from Zvezda..pity they didn´t do an Imperial cavalry set.

Every cavalry commander has to have a dog (post Gladiator)

The bods are from...Airfix, Italeri, Hat, Revell, Orion, Strelets and Zvezda

The Italeri Archers stripped of armour...and I´ve added bowstrings ;-D

Balearic slinger command figs converted from orion gladiator set

The strelets sets don´t come with  command bods.....a bit of greenstuff and using bits from other roman sets and they get some commanders.

Lady Godiva ( Painted )

One of Alex´s sculpts...I don´t know what I´ll do with her on the field of battle, a distraction piece maybe but I had to have this model in my collection.

medieval bombard experiment

Due to a couple of accidents, caused by the massive recoil of the weaponary, messers Bodkin and Bodger have designed a "Re-coiless Cannon"

This is achieved, not with springs, oh no!!. Not with counterweights, ramps, levers or any other such infernal devices, but by the simple device of opening the rear of the cannon to allow the hot gases to escape, therefore not creating pressure that will throw the device backwards.

After several operations and the laying on of leeches, T.Omkins is out of intensive care and has kindly deemed to help test this cunning device.

Here we see him about to light the fuse.

I´ve said hell to both and not individually because they both have very similar blogs...loads and loads of very clever scratch building. For example, pahootas last post about making thatched huts is inspired thinking as is Atticus´s creation of cypress trees. Both are well woth the visit and a run through their archives on how to make and do.

Late Roman army ( 1/72nd )

A project started a few years ago...but never finished. I lost interest after seeing the excellent bods that Alex was producing...and went from ancients to medievals.
All bods from Hat or Miniart and all the shields hand painted...another reason for loosing heart

Back then (4 years ago)..I didn´t add bowstrings !!

The joins of each disc of foam show up very well in the pic...in real life not so much...the camera never lies eh??
