Sand Rider

After a couple of glasses of Red wine I was sitting at my work area thinking "what can I paint next?" when  a nag in front of me transformed in my minds eye into something else not at all nag like. Next thing I looked through all my sets of spare bods and found a fitting rider. Some snipping, glueing, a bit of  greenstuff and the Sand rider and his mount were born :-)

  1. That is super wild! I see the horse model in there. Fun paint job too.

  3. Great fantasy fig. Has a very Dinotopian feel about it. I recognize the rider (Zvezda Cataphracts, right?). What is the mount?

  4. Great work mate. Oh, I get it. You cut the front legs off the horse, gave it a beak and presto, a big...dodo bird...was born! Excellent. I could try something similar for my VSF Martians. Brilliant idea.

  5. Thanks guys :-)
The nag comes from the Italeri Saracens and the rider from the Zvezda cataphracts..10 points Dimitri!! ;-) I bought the set of Saracens with a view to making an opposing army for my Templers/crusaders...but ...well, you know how it is..something else came along :-)
I´ll bung up the other sand riders soon...now they are bloody wierd looking!!!!
    Cheers

  7. The question should be "how many bottles of wine?" :-) Only the one that night...
There´s a couple of strange sand bods already made and one coming (don´t say ooooer) called the slithery silly silver slither monster from slither and slip land. Try and say that after a beer or two!!

  8. Hi Paul,

Fantastic color combination. Compicated clear color details and yet carefully done in a way not "mixed" all together.

If I can give you my humble suggestion would be continue this beast's skin pattern to the tail.

You know, most modelers I know are pretty conservative, like rivet counters, armchair historians, and accuracy police. Therefore I applaud your creativity and courage to try something new! I like it a lot. It reminds me the bird mount from an animated movie "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind".

  9. Thanks :-)
I did originally paint the pattern up into the tail but it made the stripes on the backside too long looking. Thanks for the observation and your comments :-) I will put the other "odd" beasts up tomorrow.
    Greetings
    Paul
