The Arthurian bods haven´t been forgotten
His C-o-A is also describes as having White Background but the Lion is chequered in black and red. Not only is this very difficult to paint (as my attempt Shows) but the colours won´t show in this scale
Sir Gawain Purpure two headed eagle or
Bods and Gawain´s nag from Tumbling Dice, Brunor´s nag from Italeri.
That makes ten Round Table knights..boss and another yet to come to complete the main 12 but more are planned.
Nice Knights! Repeat this a dozen times as fast as possible :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil. The last two are nearly finished, Arthur and a friend, so a Group shot will come with them, then another 4 are on thier way.
DeleteAwesome work. I particularly like the eagle.
ReplyDeleteAny plans for a Mordred? Or Morgana le Fey?
ReplyDeleteI, too have problems using colours on white backgrounds, in fact, I started using artists ink pens, which has made things easier for me!
I have plans for them but there are another 4 who are on Arthur´s staff that are first.
DeleteMordred has very similar C-o-A to gawain Purpure, a two-headed eagle displayed or, a chief argent (White field above the Gold eagle on Purple) Not that difficult but;
Morgana le Fey would have to take those of her Father, Duke Gorlois. Sable, 3 lions heads gules, a fess gules. 3 Lion heads would be murder to piant!! :-)
Would transfers be an easier solution? - I have used them in desperation in the past and they worked fine!
DeleteI appreciate your research into these characters, and think those lions heads would be VERY small in 1/72. I assume you used this site? http://www.angelfire.com/va3/crossedswords/arthur/arthur4.html
I´ve tried Transfers but the cost to result factor ended up a bit inneffective. I´m bad at planning model/painting Projects and either I print out one set which wastes Transfer paper or I have a whole load planned to use up (economically) a sheet.
DeleteI did use the linked site but it´s got Pop ups when trying to click from one subject to another (my Pop up blocker keeps jamming the site) It turns up when I do the "confirmation searches"
The Research is done using this site
https://www.theheraldrysociety.com/articles/some-arthurian-coats-of-arms/
then cross referencing on Google to get at least three confirmations (the link you gave is one) and then (for quick reference) the bodlian Collection
http://medievalromance.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/Arthurian_coats_of_arms
and Heraldica
https://www.heraldica.org/topics/arthur.htm
and then any pic searches that Show the same C-o-A´s as the three above
if all´s fine then I bung the latin C-o-A description into pic search and if it turns up at least twice on page one, then It´s Pretty much 90% got to be the Right one and then I can relax :-)
Only once. so far, has my Research gone a bit astray with Johan de Wake. Baron Wake of Liddell.

Or two bars gules in chief three torteaux." but I pianted "Or three bars gules in Chief three torteaux"
Recently someone spotted the "mistake" but in my Defence, my Research does Show both versions equally represented.
Fabulous detail again Paul.
