New Model Army Pt12 - Guns!

The artillery..or better said, the ranged weapons, artillery and archers, have been supplied by sir Bodfrey. Sir Bodfrey supplied all the Men-at-Arms so it seems only fair.

The bod on the left is from the Redbox Hussite artillery set, his head from the Italeri French Knights and Foot Soldiers set. The gunner is from Zvezda as is the box. The gun is resin and from Miniart. 

The torsos for the crew are all from the Airfix Robinhood set. The Bombard...no idea what make. Its made from a "hard cheese" type of brown plastic. The cannon balls are from a water filter which I broke apart to see what was inside 😊

Apart from the bod on the left, who is from the Strelets Shaab with Crusader Crew set, torsos are from Caeser.

 Another, this time slightly larger, batch of Men-at-Arms. 

All torsos except the middle bod, who is from Zvezda,  are from Caeser. The heads are sourced (mainly, the Zvezda bod already had a kettle helmet) from the sets mentioned in Dismounted Men-at-Arms Pt1

Again, all torsos from Caeser except the middle bod who is from the Zvezda Livonian Knights set and the Bod second from the left already had a kettle helmet.

Apart from the kniggit with the great helm (who is from the Zvezda English Knights set and he´s the boss, so gets a Great helm ) and the bod to his right who is from Valdemar, the rest are converted  with heads from bods from other sets wearing kettle helmets.

Quick break from the New Model Army project

Again, three bods, Gerome, Kay and Jerome,  from the Zvezda Medieval Peasant Army set. The arms used to convert each bod have been kindly donated from other bods within the set.  

The Handcart was, apart from the wheels, scratchbuilt. The "stowage" is from various sets of stowage but I´ve forgotten which makers.

Both riders are converted..the one on the left had a head swop, the one on the right, well, the top half of his body,  was originally  on foot (top row left) but got a promotion.

New Model Army Pt6 - Mounted Men-at-Arms

 

Small bit of progress. Two of Sir Bodard´s Mounted Men-at-Arms. 

Both of the Nags are from the   Zvezda English knights set, the one on the left has had a head swop and both had the printed Coat-of-Arms patterns removed, which was quite a job. I used a fine scalpel to remove most of the patterns but this led, no matter how carefull I was, to a scratched up surface. To deal with that I laid the Nags on thier sides and smeared woodglue over the damage. After it had dried, I added a thin layer of second glue. 

The rider on the left is from the  strelets  English Cavalry of Edward I set but he got a head swop and the other is from Valdemar.

A change from military types..a part of the Camp. Wether it will stay as a single stand or be re-based as part of a larger base..time will tell.

Both bods were part of the Imex Eastern friendly Indians set and have had a bit of scalpel work done on them.

Below, William during conversion. The head and hands are from the Zvezda Medieval Peasant Army set, which is turning out to be, along with the Airfix Robin Hood set, one of my favourites sources for conversions.

Two more additions to the NMA. Sir Bodfrey (a Cousin of Sir Bodard) and sir Bodard´s standard bearer.

Both are Valdemar Bods........and Nags 

 

Looking through the bits box I realised there was a possible conversion for use in Sir Bodard´s camp (and possibly for other periods as well) so before I lost the vision it had to be done straight away....so it will appear soon.

 So, Part two. A new trumpeter and a Advisor

Sir Bodhard decided his Trumpeter was too slow on foot so gave him a small payrise and gave him a nag.

Bottom half....???. It came out of the spares box. 

The Nag from the  Valdemar Medieval Army on the March set.

Most difficult of the conversion was removing the banner from the trumpet and replacing it with a paper one.  

 

The Bod is from RedBox Hussite artillery set.   His arm with the Hawk is taken from  Streltsi Bonus Figure that came with the Strelets Stamford bridge set. 

Nag is from the Caeser  Medieval Knights (Crusaders)

The dog? It´s metal and I have absolutely no idea of where I got it.

Anyway, with his hawk and hound, it looks like the advisor, Sir Lhess (first name Clew) likes hunting. 

A New Model Army

So, I´m back! It appears Blogger has changed some settings which I´m not yet used to, one being how to set up the text, I can´t work out how to  left align the text.Any way.. after a long break, explanation underneath, I´ve decided to create a small medieval army which will be under the command of one personality. My usual carry on is to paint up a boss kniggit, maybe have a standard bearer and one or two men-at-arms but this time I`m going for a complete army. As far as possible most of the bods will be conversions..at least headswops,  unless I haven´t painted the bods in thier original unconverted form before....or as far as I can remember wether I did or not.

I know, I havent been active for..???..a long time but I keep looking at what´s going on in the world of bods..and today I found these.....Apparently they appeared in august this year.

Maybe it´s time to get the paintbrushes out again 

Black Riders

12 bods and 10 Nags. 

10 of the bods, 9 mounted and one on foot*, are the  "run of the mill" and hard to tell apart Nazgûl / Ringwraiths. each one dressed the same as the last. 

Tiny amount of flash, mainly on the nags. The one really annoying thing, the fit of the riders to the nags. I had to remove plastic from the inside of the riders legs AND from the sides of the nags so the riders would sit properly. One or two of the riders still, even after surgeory,   had be put in hot water to have thier legs bent a bit wider.

Trying to catch Arwen..Not. She was sitting  at home in Rivendale.  Frodo was alone on Asfaloth (Glorfindel´s Horse) during the chase. 

Nags from the side. Two versions of Barding, one on the left with Crinet (Neck plates) Shaffron, the other on the right, only has a Shaffron. All the nags have a small Peytral. 

1 mounted and 1 on foot are clearly recognisable Character bods. The one on foot is the Witch-King of Angmar with his unfeasably large Flail. I reckon they could have gone for making him , what?, at least half as tall again.

The mounted one is the Mouth of Sauron, Lieutenant of Barad-Dûr.                                                The nag for the Mouth of Sauron. All the Nag poses are very active, which doesn´t fit to his relaxed pose. I was going to use a Nag from another set but went for repositioning the rear leg of one of those supplied. Not a 100% satisfactory result, but better than him sitting on a mount that looks like it´s running at Ascot. 

*Possibly also the Witch-King of Angmar or he could be  Khamûl, Shadow of the east, who became leader of the Nazgûl after the death of the Witch-King. It could have been him who stabbed Frodo at Weathertop, there were only 5 wraiths present and why would the Witch-King be out hunting the ring when there´s a war to organise ?

 What is the collective noun for them? Cyclopes? 

Never mind. 12 in the box in 4 poses. I think they missed a trick with this lot. They could have added a sprue of 2 eyed heads so they could be converted to giants.

The Bod drawing his sword was the top half of a rider from the Strelets English Cavalry of Edward I (Top row, second from the right) and the bottom half from the Strelets The Scottish army of Wallace set  (Third row from top, second from right)

The Bod with the Axe and dagger was a rider from the Strelets Army of Henry V set (eight row from top, far right) 

The saxon is from the Strelets Anglo-Saxon Fyrd set and has his sword swopped for a spear

Female, who is supposed to be Empress Matilda, is made up from the top half of the Airfix  Maid Marion and the Bottom half from one of the females in the Italeri Medieval "Battle sets"

The Viking with the spear is from the Zvezda Vikings set with an added head swop.

I´m still not as productive as I used to be..Life and things are still getting in the way of the hobby.

Interestingly, whilst basing,  the line, due to overlapping the shields,  backed up to the right. Maybe due to the thickness of the bods shields or did it happen in real life? Or did they compensate by slightly tipping their shields inwards at the left to form a straight line?

Frankish Crossbowmen - Tumbling Dice

Full Titel, FE14 Frankish Crossbowmen Quilted Jack.

8 bods in 6 poses. Two of the poses come headless and 4 spare heads are in the set, but they are all the same heads. Two of the poses are repeats so didn´t get painted, although they are the ones that need heads attaching so at some point I will add heads from other sets. 

Also in the set, 8 Pavisen und 5 loose crossbows.
